A New Interpreter's® Pastor's Bible Study

Ministers are often compelled, because of time, to use whatever resources they have at hand to prepare their weekly Bible studies. Because leading scholars, preachers, and church leaders have authored the lessons in The Pastor’s Bible Study, the busy minister is assured of the quality resources for teaching that have been a hallmark of the New Interpreter’s line of books.

The Pastor’s Bible Study provides Bible study material directly keyed to The New Interpreter’s Study Bible and organized both topically (e.g., grief, prayer, Christian living) and according to the lectionary. Each annual volume also comes with a CD-ROM that contains 50 PowerPoint presentations to accompany each Bible study. Because the material is directly keyed to the NISB and structured as a lesson and not as a commentary, busy pastors can cut their lesson preparation time by 25-50%.

Features Include:

  • Teaching Tips: Guidelines that help leaders effectively communicate study content
  • Reflections: Foster participation, generate group and individual study, and engage participants in the biblical text through the use of relevant questions for reflection.
  • Lectionary Loop: Identifies points where studies intersect with the Christian Year.
  • Study Notes: Text refers to The New Interpreter's Study Bible notes and excursuses, when applicable.
  • Sources: Complete information on important resources cited.

CD-ROM (Macintosh/PC compatible) features include:

What people are saying about The Pastor's Bible Study...

"As a pastor who has been preaching the lectionary for thirty years, this Bible Study brings a helpful "Lectionary Loop" for long-range preaching planning. It also offers support for the topical planning approach with "Reflection Questions" and additional biblical reference aids. The sermon series planning approach seems to better attract and promote better attendance for those of us who preach in traditional and contemporary worship services. I look forward to an opportunity to use this resource to plan several sermon series in the new year!"

"Warren Carter's clash of the kingdoms (God's and Caesar's) make this Bible Study of Matthew alive and most helpful for those seeking ways to preach and teach about God's Kingdom in today's political context."

- Dr. Clayton L. Smith, Senior Pastor, Centenary United Methodist Church, Cape Girardeau, Missouri

"Those persons sitting in our pews and classrooms deserve the very best that we pastors have to offer. The Pastor's Bible Study brings together solid biblical scholarship and the concerns of pastors to offer our congregations teaching and preaching that are scholarly, thought provoking, and applicable to daily life. This seems to me to be the ideal teaching resource to accompany The New Interpreter's Bible commentary series."

- Michael E. Williams, Pastor of Blakemore United Methodist Church and General Editor of The Storytellers Companion to the Bible (Abingdon).
